My name is John M. Ellison IV, I’m a musician/songwriter that’s registered with BMI that goes by the name Sketch Malkus. Now, how do you go from Sketch Malkus to Ghettopunkrocker? Well, Ghettopunkrocker is a moniker that I bestowed upon myself awhile back circa 2002 after becoming more interested in old school punk rock and a moment of playful sarcasm during a conversation about a hairstyle that made me look like Wayne Static from “Static-X.”

I felt this name described me pretty well and used the name often whenever I signed up for a forum. What really sealed the deal with the name was when I signed up with http://www.afropunk.com back in 2004 as one of the first 25 members of the board. With that, I was exposed to this whole world of black, white, asian etc. musical and cultural renegades that share similar if not the same interests I have musically and interest wise. I’m still on there as a moderator now.

I started Ghettopunkrocker.com as a site where people can check out my music projects, my writings, musings, articles ,interviews, reviews, videos or whatever media I have to share. But also I use the model of CBGB’s, 9:30 Club, Black Cat and other rock venues that feature/d not just rock bands but artists of many genres. So, you’re not just going to see stuff on punk rock, but features on other genres as well that meet my interest.
