In 1983, wrestler “Soulman” Rocky Johnson was recruited by the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) and paired with wrestler Tony Atlas. The Soul Patrol defeated the Wild Samoans (Afa and Sika Anoai) for the Tag Team Championship on November 15, 1983. Them getting the belt made Johnson and Atlas, known as “The Soul Patrol” the first black wrestlers to hold the Tag Team championship.
Interesting enough, Rocky Johnson married the daughter of Peter Maivia, who was the uncle of Afa and Sika Anoai. Ata Maivia (daughter of Peter Maivia) and Rocky Johnson had a son they named Dwayne Johnson, who became “The Rock.”
